From
modest beginnings, Bogard
Drug grew from the original store to become a small local chain of six
stores. They took a blow when Walgreen's expanded in the area, but maintained
the support of their customer base for many years. In the early 1990's, SupeRx
expanded in the area and bought out all but one store. SupeRx later sold
out to Revco, and now they have sold out to CVS. The lone remaining Bogard
store (originally known as Bogard Drug #5) exists only because of the
loyalty of its customers. Founded in 1967 by Halden P. Smith, Bogard Drug #5 has always been based on the tradition of service to the customer. He watched generations of families grow and pass on, knowing most of them on a first name basis. Never one to turn away a person in real need, Hal often carried his customers through labor strikes, illness, and hard times. Sadly, Hal passed away in 1991. What remains of Bogard Drug is owned by his wife Helen, and managed by his daughter Annette and myself as the pharmacist. Our staff has dwindled over the years from twelve, to our current six. Although we can never do it quite the way that Hal would, we continue to serve our patients' needs in a way no chain drug store could ever hope to do. |
